Joseph "Joey" Henken, age 70, of McDaniels, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Born on November 18, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James and Barbara (Elston) Henken, he filled his life with love, laughter, and a passion for sports that brought joy to those around him.


A devoted fan of the UofL Cardinals, Joey found great happiness in cheering for his team and sharing his love of sports with others. He was also a dedicated outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and taking care of his farm. Renowned for his role as "Coach Joe," he inspired many young athletes as a sports coach, leaving a lasting impact in his community. A master of trivia, he had an innate ability to entertain, often captivating friends and family with his love of music and karaoke.


More than anything, Joey cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, affectionately known as "Papa." His loving and caring nature touched the hearts of everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.


Joey is preceded in death by his father, James John Henken; his mother, Barbara Peyton; and his son, Michael Kiefer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Rebecca "Becky" Henken; his children, Kristie (Jason) Skees, Chris (Melissa) Henken, Bryan (Vickie) Henken, and Ashley (Lonnie) Walling; as well as his cherished grandchildren: Bryan, Tyler, Jenna, Taylor, Shelby, Savana, Hannah, Lilly, Kash, Landon, Kyla, and great-grandchild, Florence. He is also remembered by his step-father, Jim “Pop” Peyton; brothers, Jimmy (Connie) Henken, Ben Peyton, and Rick (Lisa) Peyton; sisters-in-law, Sherri LaPaille and Jaimie (Mike) Warren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.


Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the same location, with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, KY.


In honor of Joseph, the family requests that contributions be made to Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, located at 2120 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, KY 40216.
