Joseph Clarence Harper

Joseph Clarence Harper, born September 4, 1949, in Louisville, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026.

Joseph was the devoted son of Clarence Harper and Martha Schehr, and the beloved stepson of Frank Schehr. Throughout his early years in Louisville, Joseph cultivated values of hard work, loyalty, and quiet integrity that would define the rest of his life.

A proud graduate of Bishop David High School, Joseph furthered his education by earning an associate degree from Notre Dame College. These formative years fostered his curiosity and discipline, preparing him for the many roles he would serve in his lifetime.

Soon after his education, Joseph answered the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably in the Vietnam War, and achieved the rank of Specialist 4. Joseph approached his military service with the same quiet courage and dedication that characterized him throughout his years.

Following his military service, Joseph became a skilled welder. He took pride in his craft, always finding satisfaction in work well done and sharing his knowledge with others.

Outside of his professional life, Joseph cherished his solitude and time spent in nature. He was an avid hunter and found joy in making knives, hobbies which suited his self-reliant spirit and attention to detail. Though he often kept to himself, those closest to Joseph knew the depth of his character and the steadfastness of his love.

Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Harper; his father, Clarence Harper; his mother, Martha Schehr; his step-father, Frank Schehr; and his brothers, James Schehr and Wayne Schehr.

He is survived by his loving family: daughters Tracie Little (Patrick), Susan Flournoy (Mike), and April Cahoe (Bobby); his son, James Cathey; and his sister, Cathy Cahoe; and several nieces and nephews, adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren . Each of them carries forward his legacy of strength, perseverance, and quiet kindness.

Joseph Clarence Harper will be remembered for the honorable and humble life he led. His presence will be deeply missed by his family and all who were touched by his steadfast devotion and gentle spirit.
