Joe Gerald Bar, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born on July 19, 1935, in Meade County - Rhodelia, KY and passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Louisville, KY.
Known affectionately as Joe to his friends and Gerald to his family, he recently celebrated his 90th birthday alongside his twin sister. Joe was often referred to as the "Mayor of Green Shores" in his Rough River community, where he loved visiting old friends and making new ones.
For 40 years, Joe worked at Inland Container as a printer operator and manager, residing in Pleasure Ridge Park and later in Fern Creek areas of Louisville, KY. After retiring, he enjoyed a full-time life at the Rough River Green Shores community, partaking in lake activities such as boat rides, night fishing, infamous pig roasts, barbecues, Rook, poker, and playing the lottery, all while cherishing time spent with his granddaughter. He also took many memorable trips with his wife, friends, and siblings to destinations including Hawaii, Florida, cruises, Canada, and exploring the western U.S.
Joe will be remembered as a care giver, amazing cook, fun loving man, dachshund owner and often the guy who welcomed relatives in his home, including his mother and father-in-law and his nephew who lived with him.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Frances Barr; parents, Gertrude Barr and George Barr; siblings, Joseph Adolph Barr, Thelma Flaherty, Ralph Barr, Norman Barr; In-Laws. Mary L Clark and Preston Clark; and Margaret's siblings, Junie Clark (Lucy), Harold Clark (Ruthie), Catherine Ferry (Albert).
Joe is survived by his loving family, daughter Crystal Barr (her partner, Don Abell); granddaughter, Cameron Wheatley (Will), Mike Wheatley (Cameron’s father); twin sister Teresa Geraldine Sims (Clevie); many nephews, nieces and wonderful lake friends.
Joe’s wish was to be cremated with a gathering of friends to celebrate his life. This will be an opportunity to share memories, play cards and drink beer to honor Joe. His celebration of life will be Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at The Shop, 133 Christian Church Road. Brandenburg, KY 40108.
