Johnnie Mae (Smith) Jackson

Johnnie Mae Smith Jackson, daughter of the late LeRoy and Beulah Smith, was born November 25, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky. She departed this life on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Johnnie graduated from Central High School in 1957 as Salutatorian of her class and received her Master of Education from the University of Louisville. She relocated to Detroit, Michigan, and taught in the public school system for several years. She later returned to Louisville and continued her teaching career with the Jefferson County Public Schools until her retirement in 1998.

Sister Jackson was a member of the First Samuel Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was a pianist and choir member for many years. She was involved in the Black History celebrations and other church activities.

Johnnie and her husband Emmitt, were the parents of one child, Xavier, who preceded her in death. Her siblings, Mary Alice Malone, Anna Rose Walker, Mildred Marie Brooks, Earl David Smith, and Chester Arthur Smith also preceded her in death.

She leaves to continue her legacy and cherish her memories her nieces, Antoinette Taylor, Debra Malone, and Denise (Mitchell) Snorton; nephews, George, Kerry, and Kenneth Malone; and a host of family and friends.

Her visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2016 at First Samuel Baptist Church 619 South 16 Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203 from 11 AM to 12 PM with service to follow. Burial will follow at Green Meadow Cemetery in Louisville,Ky.
