John Wayne Hartmann, Sr., age 75 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, with loving family by his side. He was born February 4, 1940 in Chicago, IL the first son of the late John Clifford Hartmann and Dorothy Swanson. John was a graduate of Carl Schurz High School, Chicago, IL and an Army veteran having served in the 5th Army Division (Mech) stationed in Colorado Springs, Co. He moved to Louisville, KY and was employed by the L&N Railroad. Later became Vice President of Inter-Mountain & Sovereign Coal Sales, based in Louisville. In 1978 John was selected to be an adviser for the US Department of Energy in Washington D.C.
John is survived by brother James R. Hartmann (Chicago, IL) ex-wife Lora Kay "Kit" Hartmann-Abell (Louisville, KY); sons John W. Hartmann, Jr. (Marty); Eric T. Hartmann (Mary Pat) and daughter Becky E. Hartmann; Grandchildren Teel Hartmann, Miller Hartmann, Davis Hartmann. The family would like to express their appreciation of the special care provided by Parr's at Springhurst, Springhurst Health & Rehab and Hosparus of Louisville.
Visitation will be 3-6pm Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive followed by funeral service at 6pm.
