John A. Walter

John Albert Walter, 87, of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024. John was a proud member of St. Mary's Lanesville, Seniors Citizen Community Meade County Kentucky, and Lanesville Heritage Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and most importantly spending time with his family.

He was born on October 24, 1936, in Lanesville, Indiana, to the late Herman and Edith (Benson) Walter. On November 10, 1956, John married the love of his life Nancy Jane Fugit and with this happy union they were blessed with nine children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Elder; siblings, Mary Lou Bacon, Steve Walter, Aznor Stilger, Frances Loraine Hess, Irwin Walter, Leola Braun, Patsy Walter, Nick Walter, Patrick Walter, and Rose Brown; and grandson, Thomas Elder.

John is survived by his loving Wife of 67 years, Nancy Walter; eight children, Tom (Jeane) Walter, Jim (Mary) Walter, Denise (Jeff) Sanders, JoAnn (Larry) Baker, Bob (Cindy) Walter, Diana Kerr, Mike (Brenda) Walter, and Tony (Paula) Walter; 33 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter on the way; sister, Roberta Garrett; brother, Jude (Betty) Walter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at St. Mary's Lanesville with burial to follow.

The family requests that contributions in John’s memory be made to Amedisys Hospice or St. Mary's Church Lanesville, Indiana.
