John Valentine Williams, 76, of Sellersburg, Indiana, soared into his Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
John's railroad career began in 1971 with the L&N Railroad where he worked in Louisville, KY, Jacksonville, FL, and Cumberland, MD. In 2006 he retired from CSX Transportation after 35 years of service. After retirement, John was employed by URS Corporation and Benesch Engineering as a railroad inspector and consultant.
John will be remembered as never meeting a stranger. He always had a story to tell and could fix anything. John spent his life in retirement with his wife, Charlene, who was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life whom he cherished. He was her best friend and devoted husband for 55 years. They enjoyed the winters with their friends in Holiday Shores on Lake Seminole in Largo, FL.
He was born on June 4, 1950 in London, Kentucky to the late Boyd Williams and Lucille Monson Williams. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Ann Williams; nephew, Travis Rogers; fathers-in-law, Harold Harlamert and Fred Neuner; mother-in-law, Martha Neuner; and son-in-law, Greg Schindler.
John is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Williams; children, Angela Schindler, Beth (Kym) Williams, Renee (Megan) Williams, and Andrew John (Lehanna) Williams; brothers, Charles (Betty) Williams and Paul (Aino) Williams; brother-in-law, Rick Rogers; sisters-in-law, Connie Rogers and Jackye Zimmerman; many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Paxten, Bella, Nathan (Maddie), Jack (Alexa), Genevieve, Addison, Blake, Carter, Toby, Charlie, Travis, Aaliyah, Dell, and Kingston; great-grandchild, Ernest; and was anxiously anticipating the arrival of his second great-grandchild, Clover.
Cremation was chosen following John's wishes. A Memorial Gathering will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany).
