John Edward "Jack" Trout, 74, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026. A native of Crane, Indiana, Jack graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Loogootee. Following graduation, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, excelling as a Division 1 basketball player.
Jack dedicated a significant part of his life to public service, working as an inspector for the Indiana State Department of Health. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1757.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Jack was a lifelong fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and the Chicago Cubs. His love for sporting events extended beyond the basketball court and baseball diamond; he also enjoyed golfing, playing pool, hunting for mushrooms, visiting car shows and most recently working jigsaw puzzles. However, the greatest joy in Jack's life was spending time with his family.
Born on March 23, 1951, Jack was the son of Jack and Frances (Strange) Trout. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Clem) Trout, his grandson, Bryson Bravo, and his brother, Jeff Trout.
He is survived by his daughters, Brandi Bour and Shannon Laoye (Dimeji), along with his grandchildren, Alexandria Bravo (Diego), Zachary Short (Annabellee), and Josiah Martinez-Goodwin. Jack also took great pride in his great-grandchildren, Elijah, Davina, and Octavia Bravo. He is further survived by his siblings, Mark Trout (Karla), Sharon Mentzer (Dick), and Jim Trout (Sandy), in addition to his best friend, Chris Cohenour, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In accordance with Jack's wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be announced in the coming weeks. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
