John Thomas Mcintyre

John Thomas McIntyre died on Friday, September 2 at the age of 85.

A childhood resident of Audubon Park, McIntyre earned an Eagle Scout medal as a young man, graduated from Male High School, and then received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville. While in college, he was Regent of the Theta Tau fraternity. Afterwards, he served in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of captain.

He worked for a variety of companies, most notably Bechtel, the Army Corps of Engineers, and FEMA. Over the course of his 55-year career, he helped pioneer the design for air-supported structures, worked on the Apollo 11 space mission, helped build the Alaskan Pipeline, and administered relief in disaster areas for FEMA, including the 2005 Hurricane Katrina flood.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy C. McIntyre; his children Lynn Clark, Gloria Westerfield (Robert Ray), Nancy Kennedy (Robert), and John Thomas McIntyre, Jr. (Jane); and his brother Jeff A. McIntyre, Jr. (Pat). He also is survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
