John E. Tether, Jr., 89, passed away Saturday April 10th at home, with the love of his life, Mary, by his side.
He was born a Hoosier and died a Kentuckian, but was truly a Hoosier at heart. Born in the midst of the Great Depression on Halloween October 31st, 1931. A retiree of American Air Filter, he was Traffic Manager of their Transportation Dept. He was an avid handicapper of the ponies, he was one to never miss a bet on the KY Derby. He even met his second wife at the track.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Adams Tether; his father, John E. Tether Sr.; mother, Margaret Ware Tether; sister, Joan Brown; and brother, Wayne Tether.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter, Amanda (Chad) Young; grand-daughter, Sydney; and his favorite niece, Shannon (David) Hurst (Naples, FL).
Visitation will be held Tuesday April 13th from 3pm-8pm, and Wednesday April 14th from 10am-12pm at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ (403 Main Cross St. Taylorsville, KY 40071). Funeral immediately following Wednesday at the church at 12:00pm. Interment at Valley Cemetery, Taylorsville.
