John Leslie Schmidt

John Leslie Schmidt, 73, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. John was a member of the United Association Local #669. He loved hunting, training and hunting with his dogs, going to the horse races, and playing cards. Out of all his pastimes, his favorite was being around his great-grandsons.

He was born on August 23, 1947, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Raymond and Mary (Bachman) Schmidt. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Greer; and siblings, Ray Nelson Schmidt and Diana Williams.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nina (Becht) Schmidt; children, Richard (Christina) Schmidt and Joanne Kay; siblings, Gerald (Pat) Schmidt, James (Linda) Schmidt, Janice Schmidt, Sharon (Steve) Gossman, Linda Miller, and Lisa Schmidt; grandchildren, Erica (Harry Day) Schmidt, Kortney (Eric) Curtis, Jessica Kay, Luke Calfee, and Nicki Calfee; and great-grandchildren, Reid and Sawyer Curtis.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with cremation to follow according to John's wishes. He will be laid to rest at a later date in the church cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in John's memory be made to the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter.
