John Stewart Sanders, Sr.

John Stewart Sanders, Sr., age 68 of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020. He was born on March 16, 1952 in Pewee Valley, Kentucky, to the late James William Sanders and the late Martha Downing Durham Sanders. God called him home on Sunday, October 25th. He professed in Christ at an early age and united at the First Baptist Church Pewee Valley where he remained a faithful member until his death. John was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. J.B Tinsley. As a member of First Baptist Church Pewee Valley, he helped with Sunday School, sung with the junior choir, and brotherhood choir. John attended Oldham County High School. He married his high school sweetheart Gloria D. Harris and to this union three children were born; John Stewart Jr who preceded his father in death, Jonda Denise, and Janora Annette. He worked at Clayton and Lambert Mfg. Co. and retired from Kintec Woods Truss. After retirement, John became a dedicated team member of First Class Commercial Cleaning.

John was loved by all that met him. Many people would call him Uncle Johnny. Most people say that as soon as he met them, he would say "Grab a plate." Everyone felt welcomed and loved by him, he had great advice and would give it to you, whether you wanted it or not. He loved nature, flowers, and spending time with his friends and family. He loved his sisters cooking. He really enjoyed hosting family gatherings at his home. He often had on a matching du-rag. But what he loved most was God and his wife. Simply put he had love for all.

John leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Gloria Dee; daughters, Jonda Cross and Janora Sanders (Lorenzo); grandchildren, Deneshia, Aaliyah, Trinity, Aniyah, Devontay, and Isaiah; great grandchildren, Amari and Ava; sisters, Margaret Jane Bridwell (Frank), Mary Trowel, and Rebecca Sanders; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by: son, John Stewart Sanders Jr.; grandchildren, Raymond and Faith; brothers, James Henry Sanders Sr. and Thomas Sanders.

Visitation will be 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, October 30, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Pewee Valley, 7104 Old Floydsburg Road, Pewee Valley, Kentucky. A celebration of John's life will be at 1 pm at the church, with burial to follow in Pewee Valley Cemetery East.
