John Rutledge "Rut" McClure, age 81 of Louisville, passed away at home on Thursday, June 18, 2015. John was born in Springfield, KY on August 10, 1933 to Lydia Wharton and Orrie Lee McClure. He graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, KY, Centre College, Danville, KY and Stonier School of Banking, Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. He retired as Senior Vice President from PNC Bank and from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Major. Following his military retirement, he spent several years flying with the Kentucky Air National Guard as a flight training supervisor. John was a member of Southeast Christian Church, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and U.K. sports. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Hamilton McClure.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Robinson McClure; four children, Doris Karen McClure, John Rutledge McClure, Jr., Sue McClure Dyer (Ken), Frank Robinson McClure (Lisa); and five grandchildren, Lauren Ashley McClure, Scott Robinson McClure, Mark Andrew McClure, Lyla Frances Dyer and Kendall Erin Dyer; sisters, Sara McClure Hagan and Julia Lee McClure Pettus; sister-in-law, Lou Collinsworth McClure; and his nieces and nephews, whom he loved and admired. Also surviving are a host of family and friends.
Visitation on Sunday, June 21, 2015 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY and Monday, June 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Southeast Christian Church, 920 Blankenbaker Parkway, in the Fireside Room. Funeral services will follow Monday, June 22, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Southeast Christian Church. A private burial service for family will follow at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Mercer County, Kentucky.
