John R. Mitchell Sr., 71, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019. John served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a Commander of the VFW Post 3636, and 1st Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 454. John was a Life Member of the Amvets Post 1, and Life Member of the D.A.V. He was a former member of the American Legion. John enjoyed the outdoors, his garden, and especially his campfires.
He was born on September 2, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky to William and Virginia (Bell) Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his Parents, and Brother, Raymond Mitchell, Sr..
John is survived by his loving Wife of 47 years, Judy Mitchell, Sons, John Mitchell, Jr., Richard Houchens , and William Mitchell, Sr., Daughters, Karen (Ron Jr.) Brock, Sharon (Terry) Houtchens, and Malissa Baize, Brother, Artie (Joanne) Mitchell, Jr., Sisters, Barbara Fitzpatrick, Sandy (Jimmy) Rancheart, and Norma (William) Mitchell. John also leaves behind to cherish his memory 28 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Extended Family.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial and Military Honors to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, Kentucky.
