John Jackson

May 1, 1956 — January 3, 2022

John Jackson was born on May 1, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Lacy (Sr.) and Maggie Louise Bratton Jackson. He departed this life and entered eternal rest on January 3, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served on the Senior Usher Board until his health began to fail.

John received his formative education through Jefferson County Public Schools and went on to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces 101st Airborne Division. He was later employed by the Louisville Metro Government as a senior equipment operator and retired in November, 2021. He was a member of Kentucky Prince Hall Masonry, Unity Lodge No. 12.

John, affectionately known as "Big John" or "Bay Boy", had a love for life and those around him. His belly laughs and charismatic personality were infectious and drew people to him. John never met a stranger. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, and a self-proclaimed "King of Spades." He was a devoted companion, father, brother, and friend.

He is preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Leon Jackson and Lucille Swope.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his one true soulmate, Portia Ashworth; four daughters, Johnetta (Ronyell) Hamby, Tamekia Smith, Myra Johnson and Shateja Holland; siblings, Lacy (Ida) Jackson, Jr., Walter (Valerie) Jackson, Elmore (Martina) Jackson, Willie Ann Jackson, Vickie Jackson, Dorothy Jackson, Emma Jean Rogers, and Ambrose Davis; nine grandchildren; one great grandson, and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Bethel Baptist Church, 3540 Garland Avenue, Louisville, KY, from 11am-1pm with a celebration of John's life beginning at 1pm.

Burial will be a Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central, 2501 N. Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY 40160, Thursday, February 3, 2022, beginning at 2:30pm.

AND GOD SHALL WIPE AWAY ALL TEARS FROM THEIR EYES; AND THERE SHALL BE NO MORE DEATH, NEITHER SORROW, NOT CRYING, NEITHER SHALL THERE BE ANY MORE PAIN; FOR THE FORMER THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY. Revelation 21:4
