John David Hurt, Sr., a beloved figure in his community, was born on January 18, 1951, in Butler County. He passed away peacefully in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by passion and commitment to both family and community.
John was known for his outgoing and loud personality, which made him a cherished presence in the lives of many. His enthusiasm for sports shone through in his dedication to coaching. He made a significant impact as a coach in little league, guiding young athletes as they began their journeys in sports. He also served as the assistant football coach at Valley High School where he inspired and mentored countless students, fostering not only their skills in athletics but also a sense of teamwork and camaraderie.
Outside of coaching, John had a profound love for the great outdoors. He spent many joyful hours hunting, fishing, and gardening, pursuits that brought him immense satisfaction and allowed him to connect with nature. His passion for the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to his favorite sports teams, specifically the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Kentucky teams, as he fervently enjoyed cheering them on. John loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they held a special place in his heart.
John David Hurt, Sr. will be remembered not just for his achievements but for the warmth and joy he brought to those around him. His contributions to the community, particularly in the lives of young athletes, have left an indelible mark that will be cherished by many for years to come. His loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Geneva Hurt and his brothers, Dana Hurt, Larry Hurt, Steve Hurt and Kevin Hurt.
John leaves to cherish his memories, his partner, Vonda Clark; children, Monica (Thomas) Hurt and John David Hurt, Jr.; grandchildren, Caiti (Zach) Shofner, McKinsi (Jonathon) Gandia, Cassidy Hurt, Elliot Vance, Cooper Vance and Stella Clark; great-grandchildren, Reid, Rhett and Adrian and numerous nieces and nephews.
