John Wilsie Guthrie

June 3, 1950 — May 26, 2021

John W. Guthrie, age 70 of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. John was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and loved his family with all his heart. After graduating from Eastern High School in 1969, John enlisted in the Army where he served for 4 years. He then worked for the State of Kentucky as a Corrections Officer at the Lagrange Reformatory for over 25 years.

John was born on June 3, 1950 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Robert Clore and Alice Evelyn Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Lynn Guthrie.

John is survived by his brother, Rob Guthrie (Sue); nephew, Joe Guthrie; niece, Amy (Mike) Braddock; cousins, Gail Byrd (Rick), Carolyn Coin, and Les Whobrey (Tracy); and 3 grandchildren.

John was a big fan of UK Football and Basketball and enjoyed watching the games on TV. He loved the family get-togethers especially every year on the 1st Saturday in May at family gatherings eating good food, and watching the Kentucky Derby hoping to pick the winner out of a hat and collect the winnings.

Following a private family service held on Saturday June 5th, he will be buried at Harrods Creek Cemetery in Brownsboro Kentucky.
