John Thomas Greenwell, 70, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
He was born on February 21, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late James and Mary Edna Greenwell. John was a graduate of Trinity High School and served as a Louisville Firefighter in the 1970's. He was a building inspector with the City of Louisville, a custom home builder, and co-owned with his wife Greenwell Home Inspections. John loved spending time at his cabin on Nolin Lake.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronnie Greenwell and David Greenwell; sisters, Mary Rose Salerno, Vickie Merkley, Bernie Greenwell, and Peggy Farmer; and his good friend, Steve Houser.
John is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Faith Greenwell; children, Michel (Michael) Hines, Sarah Szmiot, and Kelly Greenwell; brother, Bo Greenwell; sisters, Jean Salerno and Kathy (Roger) Goodlett; grandchildren, Clara, Joy, Caroline, and Emmett; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends, Mike Shoemaker, Gary Baker, and Mac McGuire.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, October 9, 2020 at New Life Church, (3402 Goose Creek Road, Louisville, KY) with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm at the church. Per John's wishes the family has chosen cremation services.
John received a double lung transplant on March 20, 2008. His family is and will always be thankful for the extra 12 and a half years he was given. In honor of his donor the family requests that contributions in John's memory be made to Donate Life by visiting
