John Paul Gibson, born on December 13, 1930, departed this life on July 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy filled with quiet strength, steadfast love, and gentle generosity.
John’s journey through life was guided by simplicity and a heart easy to approach, his easy-going nature a blessing to all who knew him. The world feels just a little less bright without his steady presence and gentle humor.
He was the beloved husband of Virginia Gibson, who stood by his side through the joys and challenges of a long and meaningful life. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love. John’s devotion extended deeply to his son, Doug Gibson (Tina). He also cherished his daughters Donna Gibson and Jill Carroll, and step-son Greg Fields (Denise). The bonds of family and friends were central to John’s life.
John’s legacy is beautifully reflected in the lives of his grandchildren: Brandon, Christopher, Alec, Kassidy, Zachary, Braden, Lauren, Nikki (Robbie), Kelsey, Tristan (Graham), Alex (Anna), and Katie (Noah), nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. His eyes shone brightest in their presence, and the memories he gifted them—whether through nurturing guidance or simply sharing a quiet moment—will remain in their hearts always.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Althea Johnson and Luther Gibson, as well as his first wife, Betty Lea, and step-daughter Kimberly Moorman. Each loss marked him, yet he carried his family’s love forward, honoring their memory in his daily acts of care and kindness.
John’s dedication extended beyond family to his career and country. He proudly served in the Navy, earning both the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, honors befitting his unwavering sense of duty. For 25 years, he worked as a Lab Technician at Fort Knox, bringing diligence and integrity to his work. Education laid the groundwork for his professional life, and he earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science from the University of Louisville—an accomplishment he treasured.
A man of deep faith, John was a devoted member of Grace Pointe Baptist Church, formerly known as Valley Station Baptist Church. His church family offered him inspiration and support, and he gave back in quiet, loyal ways, a reflection of his steadfast spirit.
John found joy and relaxation in life’s simpler pleasures. He loved to fish, tending his garden with patient hands, and cheered on the University of Kentucky—his loyalty as enduring as ever. Family gatherings at the Gibson home were a source of particular delight, where he orchestrated joyful Easter egg hunts and cherished the laughter and closeness of togetherness.
Those who knew John describe him as a quiet man, a lover of peaceful moments, happiest with his grandchildren nearby or engaged in gentle conversation. He preferred a simple life and greeted each day with a spirit of gratitude.
