John Wayne Gardner

February 16, 1959 — December 25, 2017

John Wayne "Johnny/Nuke" Gardner lovingly called by family and friends "Nuke", strived to live a life full of love and happiness. Sunrise, February 16, 1959, in Louisville, KY and Sunset, December 25, 2017, after fighting the good fight.

Johnny, the sixth of seven children, was born through the union of the late David Gardner, Sr, and Dorothy M. Gardner.

He began his spiritual journey at a very young age joining Antioch Baptist Church and received his education at DuPont Manual High School. Johnny, spreading his wings, moved to Warsaw, Kentucky to explore his love for cooking as a Culinary Chef. He remained there for 30 years and returned home in 2013, at the persuasion of family.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father and mother, David and Dorothy Gardner, Sr. and his sisters, Delores and Rose.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, John, Jr., Donovan and Jake; one granddaughter, Savannah, who was the apple of his eye; one sister, Dorothy M Gardner; three brothers, Willie, David and Frank; two aunts, Essie and Ernestine Fortney; one uncle, James Fortney and a host of nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Oakland Baptist Church, 1226 Algonquin Parkway, Louisville, KY 40208, from 11am-1pm with a celebration of Johnny 's life beginning at 1pm.
