John Francis Appell

January 20, 1926 — December 20, 2015

John Francis Appell, 89, of New Albany, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, December 20, 2015. He retired from Colgate Palmolive after 37 years of dedicated service. John enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially working out in his garden.

He was born on January 20, 1926 in New Albany to the late John A. and Elizabeth (Kaelin) Appell. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Elsie Sprigler and Jeannine Appell.

John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Grace (Sprigler) Appell; children, John Scott Appell, Karen Appell, Deborah Wills (Dave), Amy Stumler (Johnny); grandchildren, Derek Stumler, Kaelin Schneider (Curt), Star Voigt (Kurt), Ben Wills; and great-granddaughter, Carlie Foreman.

Visitation and Services will be private. Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN) was entrusted with his care. John will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
