John Donald Smith (Don), 72, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024. Don was born and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he attended Butler High School and the University of Louisville. He later worked at Philip Morris for 36 years in Louisville and in Richmond, Virginia until his retirement in 2007. Following his retirement, Don lived in New Albany and later Floyds Knobs where he enjoyed his love of nature and animals, time spent with family and friends, a nice bourbon, and a steak on the grill.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Betty Smith, to whom he was a devoted and loving husband and life partner. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Allyson Gardner (Mohamed Dansoko); step-son, Andrew Gardner (Amber Gardner); grandchildren, Hadja and Thierno Dansoko and Gryffin and Lily Gardner. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Vicki Campbell (Jeff Campbell).
A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, August 31st from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at his favorite restaurant, Board and You, 434 Pearl Street, New Albany, IN.
