John Richard DeVore, Sr., 78, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away at home on January 2, 2017. He was a faithful member at St. Joe Catholic Church and member of Sons of American Legion Post 28, was a former worker for Hoosier Panel Company, and former member of New Albany Redmen Club. John retired from Floyd County Schools after many years of service. He enjoyed wine making, for which he won numerous awards, his tractors, and going to the Indianapolis 500 races.
John was born on June 8, 1938, in New Albany, Indiana, to Joseph and Mary Cornelia (Hall) DeVore. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James DeVore.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys (Shivel) DeVore; his children, John R. DeVore, Jr. (Sheila), JoHanna McKinley (Micah), and Douglas W. DeVore; siblings, Joseph H. DeVore (Sherry), Mary Ann Hasselbach, Helen Henderson (Don), and Jeanie McKinley; along with 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

His Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Campus), 2605 West St. Joe Road, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172, with visitation before at Newcomer Funeral Home from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation (135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10305).
