John Cowley, Sr., 88, of Louisville, passed away on February 18, 2016. John was born in Louisville on November 3, 1927, to the late Thomas and Lena Cowley. He was a proud Army veteran and former Volunteer Firefighter for Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department. He was also a Mason. John was a retired truck driver and member of Teamsters Local 89. After retiring from the Teamsters, he was a courier for Louisville Crown and Bridge.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sons John Curtis Cowley, Sr., Gary Westermann, and David Westermann.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Phyllis (Dohrmann) Cowley; children, Sandra Cowley Dyer, Richard Wayne Cowley, John Cowley, Jr., Kim Westermann, Alan Westermann, Karen Leffler, and Kathy O'Neill; niece, Paula Swift; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, February 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272) and continue on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of service. Funeral ceremony will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with burial following in Bethany Memorial Cemetery.
