John Leo "Jack" Carney, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on July 30, 2025, at the age of 64. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 5, 1961, Jack lived a life that exemplified dedication, passion, and commitment, both in his professional career and personal pursuits.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Jack's service to his country was a testament to his strong sense of duty and honor. Following his military service, he devoted many years to a fruitful career in the Nuclear Power industry, where his knowledge and expertise were highly valued by colleagues and peers alike.
Jack's interests extended well beyond his professional life. He had a profound passion for breeding dogs, serving as a co-breeder at Birdwing Beaucerons. His dedication to the canine community earned him recognition as a Breeder of Merit with the American Kennel Club. He was involved with several organizations, including the Sons of the American Revolution, the Southern Indiana Kennel Club, the American Beauceron Club, the Mid-South Basset Hound Club, the Kentuckiana Basset Hound Club, the Mason Dixon UKC Dog Club, the Beauceron Club of Canada and the Working Beauceron Association. Jack was a founding member of the Southern Indiana Historical Fisher Cat Society.
Jack is survived by his long-term companion, Susan Griffin, who was a steadfast presence in his life. He is also remembered by his children, Meaghan Carney and her husband, Micaiah Gardner, Ryan Carney, and Ben Carney, along with their mother, Ann Carney; his step-children, Bryson Griffin and his wife, Emma, and Lillian Santoro. Jack took pride in being a grandfather to Jasper Weaver and Riley Griffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carney and Marlene Focht Carney.
Cremation was chosen following Jack's wishes and no services will be held at this time.
