John C. Beyer, 94, of Louisville, KY passed away on August 2, 2016 at Baptist East, Palliative Care. John was born in La Crosse, WI on August 2, 1922. He attended parochial elementary and high school in La Crosse.
John entered the Armed Services in 1942 and served three years, which included two and one half years in the South Pacific Theatre. He received a commendation from the commanding Major General of the 33rd Infantry Division for outstanding service as a machine gunner in combat in the Philippines.
After leaving the service, John graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1949. He was a member and past president of the Wisconsin Alumni Club of Louisville. He was also a Member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was employed with Trane Co. in La Crosse from 1952 to 1969. He joined Liberty Plastics and Metals in Louisville in 1969 and served as Executive Vice President until 1984 when the company was sold, and then continued with the new owners under the new corporate name of Liberty Protective Coatings, ultimately retiring in 1993 at the age of 71.
John was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Louisville since 1969, where he served on the church council for 12 years. He was an avid golfer in his retirement. He also loved working in his flower garden. He will be missed greatly by his loving family.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lorraine Beyer; daughter, Barbara Hall (William) of Wellington, FL; son, David Beyer of Louisville; five grandchildren, Jason and Jonathan Beyer of Louisville, Lucas Golberg of Louisville, Jacquelyn Hall of Jacksonville, FL and Kathryn Hall of Atlanta, GA; great-granddaughters, Hadleigh Beyer, and Azariah Golberg; and great-grandson, Ashton Golberg. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Tamara Jean Beyer and Lisa Renee Golberg.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 12, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church (901 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207). A reception to follow. Memorial donations may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
