John Anthony Brauckmann, devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed in Louisville, Kentucky on August 22, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in Louisville on May 10, 1946, John lived a life marked by dedication to his family, profession and service to his country.
He graduated from Trinity High School, class of 1964, before earning a degree in Business at the University of Louisville. John proudly served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Aviation Electronics Technician (ASW) Petty Officer Second Class. His military service was distinguished, earning him both the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation, reflecting his commitment and dedication to his role. Following his time in the service, John embarked on a successful career as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant and business consultant, where he applied his expertise to help clients navigate their financial challenges.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marilyn J. Brauckmann; daughters, Sara Manchak (Thomas) and Dana Brauckmann; siblings Judy Arnold (Gerald), Kathy Klusman (Ray), Elaine Esterle (Gary), Mark Brauckmann, Mary Onders (Rick), David Brauckmann (Michelle), and Christine Ewalt (Jim); as well as his cherished grandchildren, Claire, Emily and Lara Manchak, and Grayson Brauckmann.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ferdinand Brauckmann; mother, Harriet Brauckmann; sister, Joan Brauckmann; and brother, Paul Brauckmann.
A memorial mass will take place at 11:00am on Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church (212 Mt. Mercy Drive, Pewee Valley, Kentucky 40056).
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or The Baptist Health Louisville Foundation (Cancer Care).
John Anthony Brauckmann’s life is remembered for its impact on those he loved and the community he served, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and compassion. He loved the Smoky Mountains and was a lifetime member of the Great Smoky Mountains Historical Society. He loved to travel and share experiences with his children and grandchildren, traveling to all 48 contiguous states. He also shared his love of trains with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
