Joey Neal Stokes passed away peacefully in his sleep on a rainy night, August 20, 2025. It was fitting — Joey always loved the sound of rain on a tin roof. He was surrounded by love as he left this world, having faced his heart condition with courage, faith, and a grace that inspired everyone who knew him.
Originally from Louisiana, Joey later made his home in Kentucky after meeting the love of his life — or as he liked to say, when he moved “to be with that little redheaded girl.”
Joey was a storyteller through and through, and he never told a short one. His stories were full of laughter, heart, and the kind of detail that made everyone feel part of the moment.
More than anything, Joey was a man devoted to his family. His love for them was the center of his world. He was the quiet cheerleader in the background, always offering encouragement and support. His favorite words — “You can do anything” — will forever echo in the hearts of those he lifted up.
A talented cook, Joey found joy in feeding others — and he never knew how to cook for fewer than twenty people. His meals brought family and friends together, filling both bellies and hearts, with leftovers that reminded everyone of his generosity and love.
Joey’s kindness, humor, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of quiet strength.
A celebration of Joey's life will be planned in the future and scheduled at a later date.
