Joanne Marie (Gibbons) Krekel, 83, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2022, with her loving family by her side.
Joanne was a devoted wife to the late George M. Krekel, Jr., and a wonderful mother to her four children. Treasuring any family activity and holiday celebration, Joanne was the life of the party—always ready to share a good laugh or story. Known to many as a "cat mom," she found great joy in rescuing and caring for kitties. She also loved horses and animals of all kinds, especially her Shih Tzu, Ralphy.
Joanne jumped at the chance to teach and mentor her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or any child that came her way. In her younger years, she taught elementary education at local schools. She was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Joanne will be remembered for her bright and bubbly soul, sweet smile, giving heart, wisdom, and adventurous spirit. She was welcoming and kind to all who were blessed to know her.
Joanne was born on June 11, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Ralph and Edna Gibbons. Along with her parents and late husband, George, Jr., she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Gibbons, Fred Gibbons, and Kenny Gibbons.
Joanne is survived by her children, Patrick (Ava) Krekel, Pamela (Steven) Seewer, Chris (Tonya) Krekel, and Kelley (Jim) Blasdel; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a very large extended family in Michigan that she treasured.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Mass of Celebration will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
For the safety of all guests, masks are suggested.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Joanne's memory be made to the Animal Protection Association (APA) at 702 E. 11th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
