Joann Elizabeth (Zipp) Day, 86, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Joann was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany where she served as choir director, elementary school teacher, Resurrection choir member and prayer line coordinator. Joann served on the Deanery Board of Education, Catholic Charities board and worked at Aquinas Center. She was recognized for her service by National Catholic Education Association, Archdiocese of Indianapolis and Giants in Faith Award.
She was born on September 10, 1928 to the late Fred and Bertha (Weber) Zipp. Joann was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Day, Sr. and brother, Fred Zipp.
Joann is survived by her loving children, Patricia Hedelman (David), Cecilia "Chi-Chi" Julius (David), Ruth Ann Thompson (Darryl), Robert "Bob" Day, Jr. (Thelma "Sis"), Denice Andres (Mike); brother, Charlie Zipp (Bert); sister-in-law, Jane Zipp; grandchildren, Jobetta Hedelman-Beaver (Ty), Abram Hedelman, Brian Julius (Michelle), Amy Short (Marty), Dominic Thompson (Erin), Darren Thompson (Heather), Darcie Thompson, Eli Day (Megan), Danielle Williams (Justin), Kyle Andres (Ruth); great-grandchildren, Nathan & Abigail Julius, Samuel & Benjamin Short, Anna, Brady & Cora Thompson, Ella Joanne & Jane Day, Kallie, Kaleb & Kelsey Williams, Thatcher Andres and Miriam Beaver and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 12 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service at 2 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
