Jo Ann Ash

Jo Ann (Dones) Ash, passed away on July 2, 2026. Born on September 23, 1949, in New Albany, Indiana, Jo was a vibrant spirit whose warmth radiated across every facet of her life.

Jo Ann lived her years with infectious energy-she was always the life of the party, delighting in bringing people together and making everyone feel special. Whether planning gatherings or simply welcoming friends and neighbors, Jo Ann’s joy for socializing and building community was visible at Valley View Golf Course, where she gave so generously of her time and spirit.

Her sense of fun went hand in hand with a remarkable drive and sharp business acumen. Jo was truly business savvy; over her storied life, she successfully ran a restaurant, a tanning salon, and even a clothing company. Through each venture, she worked with determination and creativity, building not only businesses, but also lasting relationships and cherished memories.

Jo Ann cherished her family and the close circle of friends who became like family. Her grandchildren and their friends lovingly called her “Granny Jo” or "Ma Jo," while her children and their friends affectionately knew her as “Jo Mama” or “Mama Jo.” These nicknames were a testament to the welcoming home and open heart she offered to all who knew her.

Jo Ann Ash’s legacy is one of affection, resilience, and community. Her presence made gatherings brighter and her laughter filled countless rooms. For those fortunate enough to know her, Jo leaves behind a collection of joyful memories and the lesson that love, above all, makes life extraordinary.

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Dones and Bonnie (Kron) Dones; and her brother, Vincent Dones.

Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband of nearly 47 years, Paul Ash; children, Shawn (Robin) Snook, Debbie Coke, Tracy (Danny) Lyons, and Jamie (Todd) Ray; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jackie Gibson and Robbie (Belinda) Dones.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Jo Ann will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at Valley View Golf Course at a later date.
