Jerry Allen Travis

Jerry Allen Travis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 22, 2026, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Born on June 11 (AKA, the 10th), 1950, also in Louisville, Jerry’s life was a rich tapestry woven with dedication, honesty, and love for those he held dear.

The roots of Jerry’s life ran deep in family and community. He was the son of Emma Jean and Herbert E Travis, both of whom preceded him in death. From an early age, Jerry demonstrated the hardworking and straightforward spirit that would become his trademark. After attending classes at Western Jr. High, he took great pride in earning his GED, a testament to his commitment to self-improvement and perseverance.

Jerry answered the call to serve our nation and did so with bravery during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army. His service was a source of immense pride, forever marking him as a patriot who valued the freedoms we all cherish.

For over twenty years, Jerry worked diligently at the United States Post Office, where his unyielding work ethic and honest nature left an indelible mark. His colleagues and those he served remember him as dependable—a man whose word truly was his bond.

More than anything else, Jerry cherished his family. He was a dedicated father and a loyal husband, always putting his loved ones first. His greatest accomplishment, the one that filled him with the deepest joy, was watching his family grow and thrive. He is survived by his loving wife, Minnie Travis; devoted daughters, Holly Travis and Jaylynn Travis; caring son-in-law, Damon Hampton; cherished grandchildren—Kaleigh Hampton, Jasmine Hampton, Dallas Eason, and Malakye Travis; along with siblings, Carolyn Carroll (Jerry), Virginia "PeeWee" Travis, Linda Woosley (Gary), Sandy Travis (Ray Roberts), Debbie Travis, and Larry Travis (Janet). The bond of family extended to his stepdaughters Alyssia Higgs and Angela Hines, and a stepson Jaron Hines —all of whom shared countless memories with him. He is also lovingly remembered by his best friend, Vester Green and a host nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Emma Jean and Herbert E Travis, by his dear daughter Wendy Rae Hampton (Damon), his sister Patricia Schuler (Danny "Boone"), brother-in-law Raymond Harig, nephews Billy Royse, Brandon Royse, Devin Eggers, and by great-nephew Brennan Royse.

Beyond his roles as provider and protector, Jerry loved life’s moments of joy. He found happiness in the laughter and camaraderie of sports—playing softball and volleyball, coaching, watching the Chicago Cubs and University of Kentucky teams, and sharing these passions with friends and family. Golf and horse racing stirred his excitement, while karaoke nights and dancing revealed his playful, lively spirit. His true delight was found in family gatherings, where his presence was a source of comfort and happiness.

Above all, Jerry lived by values of integrity, straightforwardness, and hard work. He was a grandfather who delighted in his grandchildren’s achievements, a brother whose steady support uplifted his siblings, and a friend who never wavered in times of need. His family wishes to especially thank Gary Woosley for the love and support provided through these recent, most challenging days.

Those who knew and loved Jerry Allen Travis will feel the absence of his gentle guidance, his hearty laugh, and the steadfast love he so freely gave. Though his journey on this earth has ended, the legacy of his devotion and strength will live on in every life he touched.
