Jerry Persun, Sr. formerly of Gallatin, TN passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at his son's home in Louisville, Kentucky after a long illness.
Born on November 19, 1948, in Williamsport, PA, Jerry proudly served his country in the US Army and the Kentucky National Guard. He later worked at GE and retired after 36 years of service. He also served as a union steward during his time there. When Jerry moved to Gallatin, he became head BS'er and supervisor of operations at the Muffler Place, an unpaid job that he loved and kept him busy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Yeager; twin brother, Terry Persun; brother, Ronald Butler; and stepson, Shannon Tucker.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Edna; his children,Tammy Slaughter (Dennis), Jerry Persun Jr. (Patty), and Carl Persun (Lisa); stepson, Marty Tucker (Judy); grandchildren, Kevin Persun (Stephanie), Holly Blanford (chris), Morgan and Brittany Madden, Justin (Ashley), Matthew (Heather), Chase, and Faith Tucker; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Al Persun, Daryl Mundy (Sue); sister, Dawn Vetter (Mark); daughter-in-law, Beth Tucker; and his best friend, Gary Deano Medlock.
Our family would also like to recognize the best Hosparus Team in Louisville, Bri, Kim and Haley. Thank you for everything.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest privately at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Jerry's honor be made to Hosparus.
