Jeri Lyn Butler, a vibrant spirit who brightened the lives of everyone she encountered, was born on July 31, 1952, in Lasalle Peru, Illinois. Surrounded by the warmth of her family and the vigorous embrace of faith, Jeri embarked on a journey that would see her serve as a beloved teacher at West Point Elementary School and Christian Academy High School. Her passion for education was not just a career but a calling, and she took great pride in her accomplishments, particularly in earning her degree which laid the foundation for her impactful teaching career.
Jeri's life was interwoven with cherished memories: the laughter shared around a table during family card games, where the rules were as fluid as the joy that filled the air; her adventurous spirit led her to brave the heavy snows of Montana as she and her family cut down their Christmas tree. To know Jeri was to experience a blend of fun-loving vigor and profound caring; she possessed an extraordinary patience that made all those around her feel seen and valued.
Throughout her journey, Jeri’s love for children illuminated many lives, whether in the classroom or as a doting grandmother (Cha-Cha) to Ava Handley, Indie Butler, and Cleo Butler. She was devoted to spoiling her grandchildren, ensuring every moment spent with them was filled with joy and laughter. Her love extended beyond family, as she found solace in painting, enhancing her life with vivid colors shared with her dogs, Moosey and Stoney Bones, who were ever faithful companions.
Jeri has been lovingly remembered by her husband, Lester “Les” Butler, and her two sons, Joel (Katie) Handley and Glen Handley, her step-son Kirker (Karen) Butler, sister Sandy Prendergast, and brother Andy Pytlik. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Don Lamps and Mike Prelog.
Her departure from this world on February 16, 2026, was marked by peace, surrounded by her loved ones who were fortunate enough to share in her vibrant life. As she joins her parents, Mary Sue and Andy Pytlik, and her sisters Laura Lamps and Mary Prelog, we cherish the memories of a remarkable woman whose faithfulness to her beliefs in God and commitment to loving her family define her legacy. Jeri Lyn Butler will forever remain a beacon of love and light in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to call her theirs.
