Jefferson W. "J.W." Sanders, 96, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on January 25, 2026.
Jefferson was a cherished husband, father, son, grandpa, papaw, uncle, and friend whose warmth touched the lives of many. He had an unwavering support for the University of Kentucky basketball, joyful fishing trips, and conversations over CB radios. A true lover of nature, he had a special affection for bald eagles and relished moments spent at his beloved lake house in Rough River surrounded by family. Jefferson wore many hats throughout his life, proudly serving as a veteran in the United States Army for two years, and immersing himself in the values of Freemasonry.
Born on October 14, 1929, in Brownsville, Kentucky, Jefferson was the beloved son of Ervin and Florence Sanders. He is now reunited in peace with his parents, wife Marie Sanders (Horn), daughter Brenda (Ervin) Miller, Janice Spencer, son Billy Sanders, and four siblings, as well as his dear grandchildren Jesse Jones and TJ Spencer.
Jefferson's legacy lives on in the hearts of his loving daughter-in-law, Susan Sanders, granddaughters Jodie (Jesse) Reynolds, Sherry (Neil) Gibbs, Carla Miltimore, grandson, Gary Shepherd, Jr., his great-grandchildren Joseph, Jonathan, Tiana, Jeffery, Nickie, Isaac, Taylor, Allison, Brittany, Caroline, Cate, Carly, Camron, and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members, each touched by his kindness and spirit.
A time of visitation to celebrate Jefferson's life will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
