Janet Lee (Miller) Staashelm, 87, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Born on November 16, 1937, in New Albany, Indiana, she was the daughter of Daniel and Martha (Shadoan) Miller.
Janet dedicated 34 years of her life to service at the Naval Ordinance in Louisville. After her retirement, she continued to demonstrate her strong work ethic by joining CACI, Inc.
Beyond her professional life, Janet embraced a multitude of interests. She found joy in playing cards, dancing, traveling, and cherishing the company of her friends. Her active involvement at the YMCA showcased her commitment to not only her well-being but also to fostering connections within her community. Janet was a proud member of the Red Hats Society and was deeply involved with St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her sister, Patty Endris. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kathy Warth (Mark) and Lisa Carter (Brian), her grandchildren, Michelle Lange (Coleman), Cody Carter, James Warth, and McKenna Carter, as well as her great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Emerson, Myles, Emma, and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Spalding, and significant other, Bob Thurman.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. A funeral mass celebrating Janet’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, located at 316 N. Sherwood Avenue, Clarksville. Following the mass, Janet will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
