Janet Louise Schweitzer

July 28, 1935 — March 21, 2018

Schweitzer, Janet Louise, 82 of Louisville passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by the people and things she loved.

She retired from Jefferson Community College, as a Full Professor, after forty seven years of teaching and leading the Natural Science Division. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1984. She volunteered as a guide at Yew Dell Gardens and the Old Louisville Garden Tour. Her hobbies included Saddle bred and Country Pleasure Competition with her horse Magnolia Butterfly. She was a regular competitor at the Rock Creek Horse Show the Kentucky Spring Premier and on July 6, 2001 she won first place at the Castleman Classic.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Josephine Schweitzer and her sister Alice Schweitzer. She is survived by her nephews, William (Berta), David, Mark, Claude, Gregory, Brian Eilers (Denise) and a niece Stacy Kyle (Delbert); great nieces, Leslie Byers, Kate Varney (Thomas John), Sara Smothers (Thomas); great nephews, Michael Eilers (Bridgette), Samuel Kyle and Jacob Eilers; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 2931 Pindell Avenue at Hess Lane. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, P. O. Box 17126, KY 40217-0126.
