Janet Rae McKim

Janet Rae McKim passed away peacefully on August, 17, 2026 leaving a legacy of unwavering love and devotion for her family. Throughout her 85 years Janet touched countless lives with her compassion, faith and simple friendship. Week after week she went to the cemetery honoring those that had gone before her with heartfelt devotion.

She was faithful in her steadfast walk with Christ. Janet was retired from RSVP where she worked as an administrative assistant and was a former member of American Legion Post 28. She was a collector of elephant figurines and enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors and taking drives especially through the places that held wonderful memories.

Janet was the mother of Novanna Nally (Jon) and Dewey Nantz (Jessica). She was preceded in death by her son Gordon Panter and daughter Heidi Nantz.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Kim Panter and bonus children Clem Nantz (Willena), Rettie Brown (John) and three siblings, Paul “Billy” McKim (Sherri), Arthur McKim and John McKim (Sherry).

Janet was one of ten children born to Atwood and Annie (Anderson) McKim. Along with her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald McKim (Edith), Anna Frederick (Kenneth), Vera O’Lessker (Karl), Tom McKim (MaryLou), Mary Jane Flick, Jacque Taylor (Mike) and sister-in-law Betty McKim.

Her role as a grandmother brought Janet immense joy and fulfillment. She adored her grandchildren - Casey Nally, Chris Nally (Jamie), Kevin Nally, Gordon Scott Panter (Kim), Jeremy Belcher (Andrea), Eric Belcher (Sally), Benjamin Rush, Ava Nantz, Ana Nantz, Amelia Nantz, McKinley Nantz and numerous great grandchildren. She carried the memory of her deceased grandchild Lindsay Panter and great grandchild Kendall Belcher with her.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service taking place at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park with a Celebration of Life at Lanesville Christian Church, 8090 Tandy Road, Lanesville, Indiana immediately following the graveside service.
