Janet Rae McKim, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and cherished memories. Throughout her 85 years, Janet touched the lives of many with her warmth, unwavering support, and deep commitment to her family.
She was a devout Christian woman with a steadfast faith. Janet had been an active volunteer for RSVP, as well as a member of American Legion Post 28. She was an avid reader, and also enjoyed cooking meals and trying out new recipes. Janet enjoyed going for drives, and was known for collecting elephant figurines and unusual rocks.
Janet was the mother of Dewey Nantz and his spouse, Jessica, Novanna Nally and her spouse, Jon. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kim Panter, and her bonus children, Clem Nantz and his spouse, Willena, and Rettie Brown.
Her role as a grandmother brought Janet immense joy and fulfillment. She adored her grandchildren—Casey Nally, Chris Nally (Jamie), Kevin Nally, Gordon Scott Panter (Kim), Jeremy Belcher (Andrea), Eric Belcher (Sally), Benjamin Rush, Ava Nantz, Adriana Nantz, Amelia Nantz, and McKinley Nantz, and her great-grandchildren, Cannon Panter, Callahan Panter, and Kamrynn Belcher. She is also survived by her siblings, Paul McKim (Sherri), Arthur McKim (Betty) and John McKim (Sherry), as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was one of ten children born to Atwood and Anna (Anderson) McKim. Along with her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald McKim (Edith), Vera O'Lesker (Carl), Anna Frederick (Kenneth), Mary Jane Flick, Jacque Taylor (Mike) and Tommy McKim (Mary Lou). She also carried the memory of those who passed before her: her son, Gordon Panter, Jr., her daughter, Heidi Nantz, her grandchild, Lindsay Panter, as well as her great-grandchild Kendall Belcher.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. with Janet's funeral service taking place at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
