Janet L. Henley, a beloved figure in her community and cherished matriarch of her family, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 13, 2025. Born on February 15, 1954, in Greenville, Kentucky, she devoted her life to caring for those around her, embodying the spirit of compassion and service.

Janet was incredibly proud to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. Her passion for nurturing extended beyond her immediate family; she took immense joy in tending to the needs of her husband, Michael L. Henley, and her children-Sabrina Keesler, Michael E. (Amanda) Henley, and Jason (Kelly) Henley. Janet's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Cameron, Savannah, and Natalie Henley, and Brandy French, as well as her great-grandchildren, Timothy, Lucas, John, Lily, Mikael, and Kyle. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her siblings: Brenda Shoptaw, Sandra (Ralph) English, James (Rosemary) Mayes, Jimmy Mayes, and Darrell (Martha) Mayes, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins who all appreciated her warmth and kindness.

Throughout her life, Janet found deep fulfillment in various hobbies, including playing Bingo, cooking, and hosting family gatherings, where her enthusiasm for creating lasting memories shined through. An avid photographer, she had an eye for capturing life's precious moments, a testament to her love for family celebrations and the joy they brought her.

Janet was also deeply spiritual and community-oriented, having been a dedicated member of Exousia Power and Praise International Church in Louisville, Kentucky, and previously of Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Louisville. Her faith and commitment to her community were integral parts of her identity.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Evelyn Mayes; her grandchild, Toni Echols; her great-grandchild, Jacob French; and her siblings, Jerry Mayes, Michael Royce Mayes, and Carol Mayes.

Friends and family may pay their respects during visitations at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM. The service will also take place at the same location and will honor the life and legacy of a truly remarkable woman whose caring nature touched the lives of all who knew her.

Janet L. Henley will be lovingly remembered for the unwavering love she provided to her family and the deep bonds she fostered in her community. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
