Janet Jean (Reed) Gadsin

November 1, 1933 — May 19, 2025

Louisville, Kentucky

Janet Jean (Reed) Gadsin, age 91, peacefully departed from us to eternal life on May 19, 2025. Born November 1, 1933 in Pierceton, Indiana to the late Baxter and Mable Reed, Jan was a proud big sister, a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother (Mema) and great grandmother.

She grew up on a farm in Advance, Indiana where she helped raise her younger sisters and babysat for all the children in the area. Jan and her future husband, David, both graduated from Indiana University in 1956. They married in 1957, moved to Louisville, Kentucky where they taught for Jefferson County Public Schools, and started a family. All of their summers were spent at their beloved cottage at Lake Wawasee in Indiana.

After 34 years as a Home Economics and English teacher, Jan retired from JCPS and became a swim instructor at the YMCA. Her love of water and children combined to touch and enrich so many lives.

Janet Gadsin was preceded in death by her loving husband, David and her brothers, Sonny and Dickie (Infant). She leaves behind her family: daughters, Lee Ann and Lesla; sisters, Sharyl and Carole; grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas, and Casey; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks go out to the amazing staff of The Pinnacle and Hosparus for the love and kindness shown to mom; to Chapel in the Woods, where she loved the music and people at Classic Worship; and the the Alzheimer's Support Group.

Janet will be laid to rest beside her husband, David, at Cave Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Louisville.
