Janet Joyce (Zabel) Ferguson

Janet Joyce (Zabel) Ferguson, 84, of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Janet was a life-long resident of Lanesville and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She loved birds, working in her flower gardens, painting, reading, and was an avid IU basketball fan. Of all her pastimes, her favorite was spending time with her family.

She was born on February 15, 1937 in Lanesville, Indiana to the late Walter and Thelma (Miller) Zabel. Along with her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her husband, George "Jr." Ferguson; infant daughter, Tina Marie Ferguson; son-in-law, Bernie Bachman; sister, Shirley Satterfield; and brother-in-law, Paul Ferguson.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Bachman; granddaughters, Sarah Bachman and Rachel (Matthew) Loppnow; siblings, Darrell Zabel, Terry (Linda) Zabel, and Rick (Tammy) Zabel; sister-in-law, Barbara (Marvin) Lichti; best friend, Cathy Stark; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany, (3309 Ballard Lane). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lanesville with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in Janet's memory be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or School.
