James Edward Tripure, Jr., whose life was as steadfast as it was loving, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana, surrounded by the warmth of his family. Born on December 23, 1943, in Edwardsville, Indiana, James lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.
James grew up in the heart of Indiana and was a proud graduate of Georgetown High School. His enthusiasm for learning led him to pursue his studies at Eastern Kentucky University, where he attended for two years while pitching for the university's baseball team. His time at Eastern laid the foundation for a life marked by diligence, curiosity, and a commitment to personal growth. Early on, James established himself as a dedicated worker, spending numerous years in the demanding field of manufacturing air filtration systems. His work ethic and integrity left a deep impression on those who had the privilege to know him, whether as colleagues, mentors, or friends.
A man of honor and duty, James answered his country's call by serving proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his courage and sacrifice. This chapter of his life was defined by bravery, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty—qualities that would later shape his devotion to his family, his community, and a life of service.
Community was never just a word for James—it was an action. He was honored to serve as a member of the Georgetown town council for two years, believing in the importance of giving back and making lasting improvements in the place he called home. When his children were younger, he also shared his love of baseball as a coach, passing along lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and joy.
Though his professional accomplishments and community contributions were significant, James’s greatest pride came from his family and the legacy they represent. He was a loving husband to Phyllis Ann Leffert-Tripure, with whom he built a home filled with laughter, support, and unwavering partnership. James was a devoted father to Jason and Greg Tripure and took great joy in their journeys and the families they created.
James’s legacy shines brightest in the lives of his grandchildren, Max, Zach, Claire, Cristiano, and Isabella Tripure, who will forever hold onto the memories of a grandfather who celebrated their achievements and filled their lives with encouragement, pride, and boundless love. The special pleasure he took in attending their ball games, fishing trips, and sharing his passion for the Yankees brought him countless moments of happiness.
James’s siblings—Nancy Rochner, Dianne Beaven, Phyllis Ann Koerner, and his brother Bill Tripure—were with him throughout life’s journey, while the memory of his brother Bobby Tripure reminds us of the deep familial bonds that were part of James’s core. He is reunited now with his beloved parents, James Edward Tripure, Sr. and Marguerite Wanda Tripure, whose influence shaped the man he became.
For James, compassion was not a trait but a daily practice. He was known for his honesty, intelligence, hard work, and above all, the love he held for his family. Watching his children and grandchildren grow and thrive brought him the greatest sense of fulfillment—a living testament to the values and spirit he inspired in them.
James leaves behind those who will continue to honor his life and memory, including his loving wife Phyllis Ann Leffert-Tripure; his sons Jason (Sara) Tripure and Greg (Fernanda) Tripure; his stepsons Todd (Ginger) Leffert and Jon Leffert; his grandchildren Max, Zach, Claire, Cristiano, and Isabella Tripure; his sisters Nancy Rochner, Dianne Beaven, and Phyllis Ann Koerner; and his brother Bill Tripure. He is preceded in death by his father, James Edward Tripure, Sr.; his mother, Marguerite Wanda Tripure; his brother, Bobby Tripure; and his stepdaughter, Michelle Amanda Faulkenburg.
