On October 20, 1948, Pewee Valley, Kentucky, James Henry Sanders, Sr. made his entrance into the family of the late James Williams Sanders and Martha Downing Durham Sanders. James was the first son, and second born of six children. James Williams and Martha were very proud parents. James was raised with a firmed belief in God, Creator of all, and loved the Lord with all his heart.
At an early age, James professed his hope in Christ, and was baptized by Rev J.B. Tinsley, Pastor, First Baptist Church Pewee Valley, in Pewee Valley, Kentucky. James and his grandfather Garland Durham, whom he called "Daddy", attended church every Sunday morning; even gathering the wood to get the fire started to warm the church before service. During his christian journey, James faithfully attended Sunday school and church services. He sung in the church choir, Brotherhood Chorus, and served on the usher board. James enjoyed attending church services until his health prevented his attendance.
While attending Pewee Valley Elementary School, James met the love of his life. It was love at first site; he knew that he would marry Ms. Anna Pearl Ritchie someday. On June 23, 1967, James and Anna were united in marriage. Their union produced five offspring. At the time of James' transition to glory, he and Anna recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
James enlisted in the U.S. Army, shortly after marrying Anna on June 29, 1967. He successfully completed basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Dix, New Jersey. James proudly served overseas in Mannheim, Germany where he trained as a heavy vehicle driver. James later served in Vietnam for an extended period. While enlisted, James achieved the rank of Sergeant and received a service medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device. James was discharged December 23, 1971.
On August 25, 2019, at 11:17pm, James heard God's call to come on home.
James was proceeded in death by both parents, and brother Thomas. James affectionately known as James Henry, Henry or Hen Dogg leaves to cherish his memory his spouse Anna; children Melissa Ann, James Henry Jr.(Michelle), Yolanda Renee (Chad), Lavette Denise (Roger), and Jacob Paul (Stacy), fourteen grandchildren and great-grandson; siblings Margaret (Frank), John (Gloria), Mary Alice and Rebecca, a host of niece, nephews, extended family and friends.
