Listen to Obituary

James “Ronnie” Mattingly, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 17, 2026, in his hometown of Louisville. He was born on July 5, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Ronnie was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1975 to 1979. During his time in the Marines, he held secret clearance, a responsibility that reflected the trust placed in him. After his military service, he worked at Finegan’s Beer Stand and at the Walnut Creek Post Office from 1980 to 1983, and he later took great pride in his work as an iron worker out of Local 70. He also attended Flaget High School until the school closed its doors.

He enjoyed watching football and was always ready to cheer on the 49ers and the Raiders. Ronnie was known for his great sense of humor, and his laugh could light up a room. He never met a stranger, and that warmth and openness left a lasting impression on the many people who knew him.

Above all, Ronnie will be remembered as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Mattingly; his children, Desmond Mattingly and Cashel Mattingly; and his grandchildren, Jordan Durrett, Tyler Durrett, Henry Mattingly, and Dolly Mattingly. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Mattingly, Tom Mattingly, and Kevin Mattingly, and by his sisters, Judy Petty, Shirley Haury, Sherry Finegan, Kathy Satterly, and Kimberly Willis. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the pleasure of sharing in his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mattingly; his mother, Mary Mayola Mattingly; his brothers, Harold Mattingly and Pete Mattingly; and his sisters, Sandra Crawley, Donna Mattingly, Pamela Welsher, and Denise Burger.

A graveside service will be held on October 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.

Ronnie’s life was marked by service, hard work, humor, and love for his family. His memory will be carried forward by those who knew him and loved him.
