James Victor Reader Jr.

James Victor Reader Jr., born on May 18, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky, and a resident of Louisville at the time of his passing, departed this life on July 3, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 64 years old.

James was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville, a proud accomplishment that he cherished throughout his life. Growing up in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, as well as Houston, Texas, James developed a character marked by intelligence and thoughtfulness. He was known not only for his academic pursuits but also for his achievements as an all-around athlete and his passion for running, which remained a significant part of his life.

Described as a loving son, loyal brother, and compassionate uncle and great-uncle, James embodied the values of family and friendship. His honesty and integrity were evident in every interaction he shared with those around him. He enjoyed long, contemplative walks and was a voracious reader, always eager to learn and explore new ideas. James was a devoted parishioner of St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, where he found peace and community.

In early June, after receiving a surprise diagnosis of metastatic cancer, James faced his illness with grace and dignity. His courageous spirit and unwavering faith guided him as he prepared to enter eternal life. In his final moments, James was comforted by the presence of his family, a testament to the strong bonds he nurtured throughout his life.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his mother, Maureen Shade Reader; father, James Victor Reader, Sr.; sister, Kathleen Reader; brothers Michael (Connie) Reader and Rev. Daniel B. Reader; and several nephews and nieces: Christopher M. (Liza) Reader, Nicholas P. (Lillie) Reader, Jacob (Makayla) Nunn, Monroe James Reader, Leddy Louise Reader, Emma Nunn, Oliver Nunn, and Alana Nunn.

James is also preceded in death by his brothers, John Christopher Reader and Patrick Joseph Reader, who will be remembered alongside him in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

As we give thanks to Almighty God for the life of James Victor Reader Jr., we celebrate his legacy of love, kindness, and the impact he made on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 18, 2025, 9:30am, at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S 6th St, Louisville, KY 40203, with burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville, KY 40205, at 11:00am. There will be a repast meal at the church celebrating his life following the burial.
