James Patrick Quinkert, 93, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday morning, October 21, 2018. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army/Air Corps. During the war, his unit fought in the European theater where he earned three bronze stars and the Medal of Victory. Following World War II, Pat again served his country in the Korean War. Pat retired from the Louisville Courier-Journal and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
He was born on March 17, 1925 in New Albany, Indiana to the late John and Marguerite (Franconia) Quinkert. Pat was also preceded in death by his brother, John Quinkert.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Clara (Grantz) Quinkert, daughters, Karen Paulk (Don Ray), Kathy Quinkert, Kelly Hornung (Scott); sons, Michael Quinkert (Terri), Timothy Quinkert (Valerie), Thomas Quinkert (Portia), Patrick Quinkert (Leigh), Dennis Quinkert (Rachel), Daniel Quinkert (Trisha), Gregory Quinkert (Stacy), Chris Quinkert; sisters, Dolores Day, Sr. Joann Quinkert; brother, Fr. Denis Quinkert; 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a rosary being prayed at 3 PM, and additional visitation on Thursday after 11 AM. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 PM on Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
