James F. Pepper, Jr., 86, of Borden, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home, knowing that he was loved, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was a proud United States Army veteran and retired after a career that spanned over 35 years in Federal Civil Service. Jim was an avid coin collector and loved putting many miles on his riding lawnmower. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing in his younger years, as well as watching football and basketball. After retiring, Jim's home became a safe haven for forest kitties that he loved and spoiled.
He was born on October 29, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James and Laverne (Staniford) Pepper. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wives, Melba (Grantland) and Cherry (Burton) Pepper; sons, Joseph and James Pepper; and siblings, John Pepper and Rosella Oldson.
Jim is survived by his children, John Pepper (Patricia), Jeannette Pepper, and Jeanine Downey (Timothy); stepchildren, Brenda Hutson (James) and Rob Morris; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Cremation was chosen following Jim's wishes, and contributions in his memory may be made to The Adaptive Hospice Foundation (702 N. Shore Drive, Suite 201, Jeffersonville, IN 47130). Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions was entrusted with his care.
