James L. Patterson was born January 1st, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky, the fifth child of Benny and Mary Patterson. He entered eternal rest on July 1st, 2019. He was preceded in death by both parents and beloved sister, Shirley Patterson Wigginton. James accepted Christ as his savior at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Louisville. He graduated from Central High School and was voted best dressed his senior year. James was employed by Ford Motor Company and Frisch's Big Boy.
Anyone who met James quickly learned of his love of boxing. He was always ready to show you his boxing stance and punching style. As a child, he joined Grace Hope Community Center, where he was introduced to boxing. James boxed in several matches and won multiple medals.
James is survived by two sons, Kerry and Damon; beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters, Jean, Geri and Benny; one brother, Kerry.
James faced challenges in his life, but through them all, he was loved and supported. During his most recent illnesses, his son Kerry became his caretaker and "the sisters" his personal chefs.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
