James "Leroy" Murphy, 76, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020. He was retired from the New Albany Fire Department after 32 years of service, was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in New Albany and the Jeff Elks Club, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Leroy enjoyed golfing, fishing, riding his motorcycles, and going dancing with his wife.
He was born on February 8, 1944, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late James Murphy and Marie (Dorsey) Roche. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Lynn Sue Murphy.
Leroy is survived by his second wife, Janice Murphy; children, Lettie (Mark) Leister, Kevin (Tammy) Murphy, Keith Murphy, and Jason (Mara) Murphy; stepchildren, Joseph (Ovi) Schaefer, Angela (Chad) Denison, and Robert Staser; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and fellow firefighters.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany, (3309 Ballard Lane). His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
