James Merlin Geary

James Merlin Geary, 81, of Elizabeth, Indiana, passed away on September 1, 2016. He was born in Horse Branch, Kentucky, on November 15, 1934, to Lawrence and Ruby Geary. James was a hard worker and drove a semi-truck for many years. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Owen) Geary; two children, Venita Schmidt, and Michael Geary; and a brother, J.R. Geary. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Thelma (Crisman) Geary; children, Jody Vannatta (Robert), Wayne Geary, Susan Baker (Benny), Margaret Knox (Randy), Sheila Mitchell (Dwayne), Ruby Geary, and Linda Showalter (Shaun); siblings, Shirley Glaze, Larry Geary, Donna Nalley, and Dennis, Jerry, and Cary Geary; along with 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150) from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. His service will be on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation before from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
